About Charleston Outreach
Charleston Outreach began its work in the communities of the greater Charleston area in 1992 through the support of a local association of churches. Since that birth the lives of thousands of people have been changed, even transformed. For over 15 years Charleston Outreach and its staff have:
-
Facilitated over 26,000 volunteers from around the USA to positively impact communities of the greater Charleston, South Carolina area,
-
Utilized over $1,100,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding on over 1,000 homes in partnership with the cities of Charleston and North Charleston.
-
Facilitated collaboration for a free medical clinic, serving over 12,000 patients, and a free dental clinic, serving over 3,400 patients,
-
Educated, trained and resourced churches regarding the need for active community impacting efforts such as after-school mentoring, English as a Second Language classes, and much more,
-
Trained over 800 high school and college students from around the USA for positive community impact through internships.
Now we are working to expand the above mentioned efforts as well as to develop some new dimensions to help move churches more effectively into their communities for positive impact. The journey through which we are facilitating churches includes:
-
Developing a redemptive vision for life and ministry approach,
-
Conversations in communities to introduce the church to them,
-
Consideration of community information for ministry development,
-
Envisioning, Designing and Implementing community ministries,
-
Surfacing resources for community ministries, and
-
Collaborating resources for community ministries (Human Needs Crisis Network, Comprehensive Community Restoration Strategies, etc.).
Our greatest desire is to play a significant role in stimulating a movement of churches sharing opportunities for restoring communities everyday, everywhere, with everyone.
